Christmas Season!!

Hello all! It seems to be Christmas with all the snow that random places are getting. Another thing with Christmas is the fun treats! I know Christmas is nearly everyone's downfall when it comes to the waistline. Here are some ideas of what you can substitute to make those yummy treats healthier:
*Butter for Margarine
*Apple Sauce for Oil
*Sugar Substitute for Sugar
*Egg Whites for Eggs
*Whole Wheat Flour for All-Purpose Flour

And many more, you can just search for substitutions online. One of my favorite recipe sites is eatingwell.com. Their frozen pumpkin mousse pie is amazing!

As for the fitness tip for this week, try and get the family involved. It can be walking the dog, doing a charity walk/run, playing some basketball, or even fun activities such as sledding! Don't forget about those fun activities! They burn calories too!

A workout to try for this week is an interval workout on either the treadmill, bike, or elliptical. All you have to do is include one high intensity session and one low intensity session. For example, I really like doing intervals on the treadmill. I will do a high intensity portion at 7.5 speed for 2 minutes and low intensity at 4.0 for 2 minutes. It is a great way to mix the workout up. However, you don't have to base it on speed, you can always do it with the incline. You can also do it on the elliptical or bike just by adjusting the speeds or resistance for each section.

Good luck everyone and stay healthy!

Welcome!!!

Welcome to my health and fitness blog! I am currently an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer and NETA Group Fitness Instructor. I teach high intensity classes such as kickboxing and step aerobics to low intensity classes such as sculpting classes and core conditioning. I will be graduating with my Bachelor's of Science in Health Promotion in the upcoming year. In the next 6 months, I plan on obtaining two more certifications including ACE Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant and ACSM Health and Fitness Specialist. I am also the group exercise and personal trainer supervisor at the college wellness center. During my free time, I also work with children teaching swim lessons.

I have worked in various areas of health and wellness and have great experience to contribute to all! I have worked in a family wellness center, a college wellness center, an exercise research study, a weight loss camp for children, and soon to include in my resume, a corporate fitness facility.

I look forward to providing my knowledge of health and fitness to all. Every health tip that I post will be backed by evidence, so no worries about some of the exercise information I will be posting. I plan on having a weekly topic as well as a "Workout of the Week". I will begin my postings on Mondays. Be sure to check on a weekly basis!

Have a healthy week!
